Wasp Killing: Raid vs. Ortho
Raid wins in a landslide! I bought a can of Ortho wasp killer a few weeks ago because the little critters like to build nests under our gutters and under the eves of our house by the fish pond. I don't need tons of wasps hanging out by my front door waiting to sting me, my family, or my guests.

I honestly don't know why I bought the Ortho, possibly because it was cheaper? I really don't even remember. Anyway, one day as I was walking out to get the mail I spotted their nest between a gutter and the facial board. I grabbed my Ortho spray and let them have it. Three flew out and away. Three more fell on the ground, flailing around. I watched as one started to fly off again, I hit him with the spray again and covered him in foam. I went ahead and covered his buddies on the ground while I was at it. It took a solid 30-45 seconds with them COVERED in the foam for them to die. This one "extermination" used the whole can of Ortho.

The next time I was out, I grabbed a can of Raid wasp killer, because I knew the little turds that got away would come back and try again.

Today I found two nests. One in a corner under the eve. This one was easy to hit from a distance so I grabbed my Raid and shot a blast at the nest. All three wasps on the nest fell to the ground immediately and were dead within 10 seconds. The other nest was again between the gutter and the facial board, but this time it was back in a corner where a direct assault would put me right under the nest. Instead I stood a good distance away and just nailed the facial board under the nest so it would bounce up into it. Again, both wasps on the nest fell immediately and were dead within seconds.

Two nests, 5 total wasps, and only two short sprays.

RAID RULES! ORTHO DROOLS!

Some updates
I went to San Antonio a few weeks ago to see Jeremiah since he is running sound for the DH/LS tour. It was a blast! It was awesome just getting to hang out and chat with him for quite a long time. Still one of my favorite people who I wish I got to hang out with more often.

Received an email out of the blue from John Olivier the other day! He's married now (one year anniversary coming up) and things seem to be going pretty well for him. He's up on the north side of town so I am hoping that we can hook up for dinner or something in the near future.

Basim will soon be coming home for about a week. We're hoping to get a chance to see him and catch up....he's another one of my favorite peeps.

Speaking of favorite peeps....if my rememberer is working properly, I think Dovie is coming home soon! WOOHOO!!!

I have been having old friend withdrawal lately. I think this was mostly brought on by my trip to see Jeremiah. It's one of those great dichotomies in life: it totally sucks to grow up and get all the extra responsibilities that come with it. But the payoff is that the things that cause the responsibilities are freaking awesome, i.e. spouse, kids, etc. The old saying "The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away" doesn't have to apply just when someone dies. It seems to happen over and over again throughout the course of life. The cool part is that when He giveth, He usually giveth pretty good!

Cornerstone Schedule Maker 2008 - LIVE!!
Band data has been loaded for Cornerstone 2008. As usual, other schedules are a bit more difficult to get into the database due to how they are displayed on the official web site. If I get some free time I will try to add other schedules such as Imaginarium, Flickerings, Seminars, etc.

Enjoy!

Cornerstone Schedule Maker
For those wondering, I will have the 2008 schedule maker up soon. I just need to find some time to load all the data. Thanks to those who have been asking about it! It's good to know that people still use it.

Why did I buy a suit?
I didn't realize it until chief asked the question in his comment on my last post - I never stated my reason for buying a suit.

I teach the college class at our church. There are pretty much no girls in the class, just 8 or 9 guys. One week they decided they were going to all wear suits to church on the following Sunday. As the discussion continued they decided that this would be a monthly event on the last Sunday of every month (I lobbied for every month that had a 5th Sunday but they said that wasn't often enough).

Well first off...I didn't even own a suit. I've never really felt a need to own a suit. At most I would probably wear a suit once or twice a year and figured it just wasn't worth it. The first Sunday they all showed up decked out and I totally forgot about it. I looked like a hobo next to these guys! I decided that maybe now was a good time to actually get a suit since I will have an occasion to wear it every month.

So now the last Sunday of every month is Suit Sunday. I own a suit and a sport coat to go with it. We're a pretty sharp looking bunch if I do say so myself:

It's the end of March!
Man this year is flying by! Reagan will be in Kindergarten this Fall and time just keeps ticking away.

I bought a suit.

Yep.....let that sink in. I now actually own a real suit, I think for the first time in my whole life. Anyone who is so excited about this that they wish to donate to the grinder suit fund, you are heavily encouraged to click the donate link below :)

Spring Break Fishing Report:
It was a roller coaster week. From Friday through Tuesday the weather was nice but it was pretty windy. We were able to find fish in batches it seemed. We'd go an hour with only a nibble or two and then for 45 minutes we would catch several fish. Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday the wind got really crazy and it rained pretty hard. We went out a couple of times and the fishing was still about the same. Each trip (morning and evening) we usually came in with 3 or 4 good keepers and had thrown back several. We even caught a keeper white perch on two separate occasions.

Thursday was our best day. We had decent action early as the sun came up and then it slowed down until about 11:30. At 11:30 they flipped the switch. From 11:30 to 2 we caught 5 or 6 keepers, threw back several and also missed quite a few. Ended up with a 7 fish stringer with the largest being 3.5 pounds. Thursday evening we only fished for a couple of hours and had 10 with 2 keepers.

The rest of the week the weather was perfect with little to no wind. But for some reason it seemed like the fishing slowed and I don't know why. Even though the legal size is 14 inches, we didn't keep anything smaller than 15 and if we had less than 3 keepers when we were done, we put them back. So we actually put back quite a few keepers. As for total numbers, I estimate I probably filleted almost 30 for the week. We probably caught about 45-50 keepers overall and probably about 100 total.

As for big spawners, Jason lost one at the boat that was probably at least 6 pounds but that was pretty much it from us for big fish. We did see a guy who caught one that was 24 inches long, he didn't have a scale so we don't know how much it weighed. For reference, my 11 pounder from 1989 was about 24-25 inches.

Also, all week long I was the ONLY minivan at the boat ramps :)
